Special screening of Avatar in the JBL Theater!

We have made special arrangements with the EMP Museum for a special screening of Avatar to take place in the museum's JBL Theater. This is the same space that hosted the various panels at last years meetups; a cozy 191 seat auditorium with HD projection and of course great JBL sound! To enter the screening, you'll need to be registered on AvatarMeet.com as attending the 2012 meetup, and you'll need to have purchased one of our special group discount tickets from the EMP for the weekend. (See the adjacent "EMP tickets" article.)

Donations Update

Just a quick note about donations: We have hit our goal for $3000! Irayo to everyone for your donations.
The ChipIn system is still open to allow those who haven't yet donated to put in their part towards the shared costs for the event & clan meal.

At this point we have enough to pay for the clan meal for over 50 people and rent out some meeting rooms, snacks for the Thursday evening welcome ceremony, and some other basics like name badges for everyone. (Make sure you've told us what you want on your badge in your AvatarMeet.com profile!) But we are still collecting for a few other group items and to make sure we are covered as more people book and confirm they make it to the clan meal - another reason to keep that profile up to date: Our budget depends on it!

Avatar producer Jon Landau to meet fans at AvatarMeet 2012!

We are thrilled to announce that Academy Award winner Jon Landau, producer of "Avatar" (and some other little films like "Titanic"), will be joining us at AvatarMeet 2012 for a "meet the producer" session on Friday evening, before our special private screening at the EMP's JBL Theater. The details are still being worked out, but the plan is for - like everything at AvatarMeet - a low-key interactive session, with stories from the set, Q&A, and photo ops. Stay tuned to AvatarMeet.com for more information as the event draws closer!

EMP Tickets

We have secured a fantastic deal with the EMP museum for group tickets for AvatarMeet 2012. Here's what you get: Full regular admission to the EMP Museum and all the exhibits (including of course "Avatar: the exhibition", and the brand new "Icons of Science Fiction") for Saturday and Sunday; Admission to the EMP Learning Labs for our special Na'vi lesson taught by Professor Paul Frommer, creator of the Na'vi language, on Sunday afternoon at 3 PM; Entrance to the JBL Theater for our private screening of Avatar (See the "Avatar screening" article); And as an extra bonus for those who spend more time in Seattle a 15% discount on a EMP Museum annual membership. All this for just $30 a person! Tickets will be sold online directly by the EMP (it'll be similar to the online ticket sales for the panels last year). We will post links on AvatarMeet.com and send out another newsletter when the ticketing opens. You *must* buy your EMP tickets online using this system.

If You Haven't Booked, Do so Now

With the news that Jon Landau and Paul Frommer are attending AvatarMeet 2012, we realize that there may be some of you on the fence about attending who are now planning on coming. If this is the case (or you just haven't got around to booking yet); now is the time to book your travel and hotel. Airline tickets normally go up in cost a couple of weeks before the travel date; and the hotel is now selling rooms on an "as available basis" - availability isn't guaranteed, so book now before all the rooms are gone! There are less than 4 weeks until AvatarMeet 2012!

T-Shirt Voting!

We have 2 great design submissions for the official AvatarMeet 2012 T-shirt.

To vote for your favorite, simply vote in one of the polls on LearnNavi.org here or Tree-of-Souls.com here!
Please only vote once. Polls close the evening of June 25th (Monday), so go vote NOW!

The shirt with the most votes will be printed and sold directly at the meetup for about $8-$11 (we'll know the final price once we order the shirts).

There will be options in your AvatarMeet.com profile next week for you to tell us your T-shirt size and how many you'd like to order. (Also a good time to check that your AvatarMeet.com profile is up to date!)
